The Value Of Assets

Morning!

Last week I wrote about relationships with people being one of our most valuable assets. When people talk about assets, they are usually making reference to monetary assets. Our net worth is tabulated in dollars. But, how would this number look if we included relationships with people as well as how we spend our time to the formula? I believe we have an asset trinity and people, time, and money complete the triangle.

Time is arguably our most precious asset.

We’re never getting it back and we should make every minute count if we can.

Prior to writing this, I spent 20-minutes on Instagram looking at and liking pictures and videos of people I follow and then I went down a 16-minute, 16!, wormhole looking at videos by @Khaby00. He’s new to me but I’m late to the game because he has close to 100M followers on Instagram and 100M+ followers on Instagram. When I re-emerged I couldn’t believe time had passed so quickly and that I spent that much of it scrolling.

Does this happen to you sometimes? Maybe it’s not scrolling on Instagram but it could be anything else that’s taking you away from the things you want to be doing most.

When people ask me how I get all the things I’m working on done, I am VERY transparent that I’m not doing all the things that people see. I work with other people to make it happen. At the shop, there are currently 25 other people not including Nick and I, that prepare and serve ice cream. I work with four different contractors to manage the back office functions of our business like bookkeeping, weekly email prep, Ad management, product photography, online customer support, tax prep, and other random administrative tasks. I work with a housekeeper to keep a semblance of order in our apartment and I am training our children to tend to the home so that Nick and I aren’t the only ones between housekeeping visits. There is plenty on my plate but I don’t like people to be fooled. All that they see happening is not happening from these two hands that are writing to you now.

I have created systems for myself to keep all my plates spinning and I’m thinking about offering a one-day virtual retreat in May to help others make the most of their time as well.

Can you let me know if this is something you’d be interested in?

I like to have conversations about the things I’m working on before I start working on them so I don’t make things that are not useful.

If you’d be interested in this day-long experience that will likely include breakout groups to talk about time-related topics, exercises, some motivational presentations, and a little pre-work to prep for our time together, can you share what your biggest struggle with time is right now and what you would want to get out of the day?

Sending my best to you all for an amazing weekend! Enjoy this weather and maybe see you at the shop for some ice cream 🍨.
